UCI CHOSE INTERCONTINENTAL BEIJING BEICHEN AS APPOINTED HOTEL FOR THE 2011 TOUR OF BEIJING

October 2-9 2011, as the unique appointed hotel, InterContinental Beijing Beichen hosted the world's top teams of the International Cycling Union (UCI) during the first 2011 TOUR OF BEIJING.

Tour of Beijing, the first of its kind in Asia, was started and finished at the Olympic Park and included international tourism landmarks such as Bird's Nest Stadium, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, Great Wall and Ming Tomb Reservoir.

As UCI looks to expand into new continents, Asia now has a top-level competition on the World Tour calendar. Under contract for the next four years, it is being organized jointly by UCI and ASO (Amaury Sports Organization), with the Director of Tour de France holding the same function in Beijing. The 2011 tour of Beijing is the last stage race on the 2011 UCI World Tour calendar, finishing six days before the final event of the season.

Beijing officials are keen to promote cycling, to build on the heritage of the 2008 Olympics, with the Bird's Nest and Water Cube hosting the start and finish of the opening time-trial.
“We were excited to be the home of Tour of Beijing. It shows again that InterContinental Beijing Beichen’s location, excellent facilities and service are the best choice within the Olympic Area and we congratulate all winners and organizers for staging this event in Beijing.” comments Daniel Arbenz, General Manager at InterContinental Beijing Beichen.
